The critical role of chimneys in industrial power systems
In modern industrial facilities, especially those using internal combustion engines for power generation, chimneys are not just exhaust outlets — they are vital structural elements that help ensure system efficiency, stability, and safety.
To maintain reliable and efficient operations that meet technical standards, the fabrication, welding, and installation of chimneys must be performed with high precision and in strict compliance with certified procedures.
Welding Tasks Executed by ISS – Detailed Breakdown
In the generator upgrade project at Heineken Tien Giang Brewery, ISS (Innovative Steel Solutions Co., Ltd.) was entrusted with the entire mechanical package related to the chimney steel structure — from fabrication to on-site assembly, with a special focus on critical welding tasks.
WORKSHOP FABRICATION:
- Manufacturing the new top body of the chimney according to approved technical drawings
- Prefabrication of support rings and aluminum cladding panels
- Quality control and dimensional checks before dispatch to site
ON-SITE WELDING AND ASSEMBLY:
- Removing the existing chimney components using specialized cutting tools
- Welding the new top-to-bottom chimney sections in 6G position – known as the most challenging welding posture
- Welding bracing elements for enhanced structural integrity
- Employing TIG welding (GTAW) using the TIG 300 machine for high-precision welds
- Performing 100% visual weld inspections in compliance with AWS D1.1
- All welding operations followed the approved WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) and PQR (Procedure Qualification Record)

All project activities were executed under:
- ISO 9001:2015 – Certified quality management system
- EN 10204 Type 3.1 – Material traceability and certification
- WPS & PQR – Standardized and approved welding procedures
Conclusion
By delivering high-precision welding and mechanical assembly with full compliance to international standards, ISS successfully contributed to a safe, efficient, and durable chimney system at Heineken Tien Giang.
